2000 Club: The Vision
When the Boston Women's Fund first launched the 2000 Club in 1996,
we were scoffed at by fundraising consultants. We were told that
it was an "interesting idea" but in reality probably would
not work. Why not just find a few wealthy individuals and get it
over with?
At the Boston Women's Fund we believe that raising awareness about
giving is very important, creating a diverse donor base is critical,
and creating an inclusive model is vital. The 2000 Club breaks through
the myth that philanthropy and endowment campaigns are exclusive
to the wealthy few, and proves that people from all walks of life
can share in the power of giving.
As we end the fiscal year, the 2000 Club Endowment Fund has reached
$973,000. Among the 2000 Club's 1946 members are a carpenter, a
student intern, the dean of a college, a foster parent who decided
to set aside $10 a month for five years, immigrant women, a CEO
of a bank and his receptionist, a midwife, a legislator, BWF grantees,
a Seder group, a nine-year-old girl who used savings from her piggy
bank, and a group of women honoring their friend's eightieth birthday.
Members of the 2000 Club find power in the connection with the
Boston Women's Fund, where everyone is equally valued. In the 2000
Club we share our vision that justice can and will prevail. Our
collective voice becomes even stronger in demanding our right to
impact social and economic change. By donating to the 2000 Club
together we claim ownership for the future of the Boston Women's
Fund.
