1. Do you grant money to individuals?
No, we do not grant money to individuals for any purpose.

2. Do you fund direct-service-only organizations?
No. We generally do not unless there is a conscious effort to educate
about the root causes of societal injustice.

3. Do you fund for-profit efforts?
No. We award funds to 501(c)(3) type organizations/projects that
are trying to affect social change.

4. What do you mean by social change?
Social change is the empowerment of historically disenfranchised
sectors of society through community organizing and advocacy. The
Boston Womens Fund prefers to fund social change focusing
on the redistribution of power and resources rather than increased
opportunity. It sees social change occurring through the organizing
of those women and girls affected.
Social change does not mean a change in your social condition or
status (i.e. from homelessness to housed, from unemployment to employed),
but it is a change in your awareness from silent and unheard to
vocal and committed to positive change; from couch potato to community
activist; from uninformed to empowered.

5. Do you accept proposals by Email or Fax?
We accept proposals by Email, but not via Fax. Deadline for emailed submission is 6pm on deadline day.

6. What if the proposal deadline falls on a
weekend day?
Proposals are then due on the next occurring business day.

7. Do you have a page limit or required font
size?
Yes. The narrative can be no longer than 6 pages and because we
have members of our allocations committee who are visually impaired
we can only accept a font size of 12 or larger. Please number all pages.

8. Will my proposal submission be acknowledged?
Yes. We will send you a postcard acknowledging receipt of your proposal
along with other noteworthy information.

9. When will final decisions be made?
Depending on funding cycle, a letter will be sent during the last week of January or the last week of June informing you of your award status.

10. Do you accept proposals written in another
language?
Unfortunately, we do not have the capacity on staff to handle proposals
submitted in a language other than English.

11. What if my mailed proposal reaches your
office after the deadline but is postmarked on deadline day?
Proposals must by physically in our office by 6pm on deadline day
no matter what the postmarked date is.
